The Social Relief of Distress Grant is administered to a number of qualifying individuals in terms of the Social Assistance Act. However, grant recipients need to know where to access their funds closer to their payment dates.
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant benefits unemployed South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Special Permit Holders.
All beneficiaries of the SRD grant need to be between the ages of 18 and 60 years. Qualifying individuals receive their monies on a monthly basis from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) through selected paypoints.
SRD grant beneficiaries that are Asylum Seekers and Permit Holders need to use Pick ‘n Pay to collect their payments, stated Sassa.
These are the steps that Asylum Seekers and Permit Holders need to follow before making their withdrawal:
- Click on the SRD website link
- Enter the asylum seeker File Number or special permit holder Passport Number
- Enter the cell phone number that you used when initially applying for the grant
- Click on submit
The government agency will then notify the grant recipient of their Payment ID, which they will use to collect their funds at the selected retail store.
Most social grants are disbursed during the first week of every month, but SRD grant recipients are given different dates to withdraw their funds.
According to Sassa, the SRD payment amount currently remains R350 per person, for each month they qualify.
Should an individual be rejected for the grant for any month that they have applied for, they do have the opportunity to submit an appeal for Sassa to reconsider their decision to provide the individual with the SRD grant.
Once a person has submitted their appeal, then they will need to constantly track the status of the SRD grant appeal online.
