The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) is offering scholarships and internships for South African academics and civil servants in Spain.

The call for applications for MAEC-AECID study grants includes the following study grant modalities Master’s degree, Spanish Master’s degree, research study grant, internship and diplomatic school.

Master’s degree

 

Apply for pre-admission to the centre of destination at which the master’s degree course will be held, pursuant to the requirements established by said centre. The study grant shall be awarded subject to their definitive admission

 

Be a civil servant or from the public sector.

Must have obtained approval from superior to studying abroad.

 

Must be official in nature, it must be classroom-based, and it must offer a maximum of 60 ECTS credits.

Must be related to one of the lines of action set forth in Spanish cooperation’s current master plan or to one or more of the sustainable development goals of the 2030 agenda

 

11 months, from 1 September 2023 to 31 July 2024
Spanish Master’s degree Apply for pre-admission to the centre of destination at which the master’s degree course will be held, pursuant to the requirements established by said centre. The study grant shall be awarded subject to their definitive admission

 

Be a civil servant or from the public sector.

Must have obtained approval from superior to studying abroad.

 

Be official or unofficial, it must be classroom-based, and it must offer a maximum of 60 ECTS credits.

Must be a course in the teaching of Spanish or in the Spanish language and Spanish culture.

 

11 months, from 1 September 2023 to 31 July 2024
Research Study Grant Apply for pre-admission to the centre of destination at which the master’s degree course will be held, pursuant to the requirements established by said centre.

The study grant shall be awarded subject to their definitive admission

 

Be a member of the research staff, or a university lecturer, at an institution of higher education;

 

Have been accepted or invited by a Spanish institution to carry out a research stay in Spain.

 

 

University Researchers and Teaching Staff to carry out research stay in Spain, related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, at a university, at a CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) centre, or another public or private R&D institution.

 

Between 6 and 9 months within the period

from 1 October 2023 to 30 June 2024

Internship The study grant shall be awarded subject to their definitive admission.

 

Hold proof of an agreement signed between a public or private body or entity of Spain and of their country of origin

 

Formally agree to carrying out an unpaid internship in the organization or entity with which the aforementioned agreement was signed, pursuant to the requirements established by said organization or entity. Between 6 and 9 months within the period from 1 October 2023 to 30 June 2024
Diplomatic School Apply for pre-admission to the master’s degree in diplomacy and international relations of the diplomatic school of Spain, pursuant to the requirements established by said school. grants shall be awarded subject to their definitive admission.

 

Be a civil servant or staff member of the public system and obtain authorization to study abroad from a hierarchical superior to accept the study grant.

 

  9 months, from 1 October 2023 to 30 June 2024
Candidate Requirements
  • South African citizens;
  • Have knowledge of Spanish
Bursary Inclusion
  • A first monthly payment of 2,500 euros which shall be settled once the beneficiary has begun attending their classes in Spain, and subsequent monthly payments of 1,300 euros;
  • Assistance with enrolment fees of up to €5,000 where applicable;
  • Health insurance while in Spain; and
  • Accident insurance.
