The department declares April 28 An Exciting School Holiday

Students and instructors in South Africa have good news! Informing parents, guardians, and the local school community about the upcoming special holiday on April 28, 2023 is the Department of Basic Education.

Students and instructors are not expected to report to school on Friday, April 28, 2023, which has been designated as a special school holiday. Parents and guardians were reminded not to send their children to school in a message from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to them.

Freedom Day, a prominent national holiday in the nation that honors the first post-apartheid elections held on that day in 1994, will be celebrated on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Following Freedom Day on Friday, April 28, 2023, students and instructors will have a special school holiday, according to an agreement reached by the Department and concerned parties.

The DBE also reminded South Africans that Monday, May 1, 2023, is a public holiday as well, so students and instructors are not expected to be at school on that day. Workers’ Day is observed on this day to honor the contribution that trade unions and other groups made to obtaining universally equitable work standards.

“We therefore, as the Department of Basic Education, encourage the teaching and engagement of learners from as early an age as possible, to be taught about the history of our beautiful country.”

While looking toward a better and brighter future, it is crucial to remember the significance of these historical celebrations for South Africa.

As a result, there will be a long weekend for schools starting on Thursday, April 27, 2023, and ending on Monday, May 1, 2023.
